Geographic Coverage and Jurisdiction Distribution

Shovels' coverage follows a power law distribution across the approximately 20,000 jurisdictions in the United States. About 85% of the US population resides in just 15% of jurisdictions, and Shovels has strategically focused on covering these high-density areas first. Currently, we cover approximately 1,400 jurisdictions, representing about 80% of the US population. We continue to expand our coverage, adding 10-30 new jurisdictions and 5-10 million new permits each month. While we're still working on covering the "long tail" of smaller jurisdictions, our current coverage already encompasses the majority of America's population centers.
